First Birthday Party

Whew, Khloe, this was a BIG one! Your first birthday! What a momentous occasion it was, that we choose to celebrate with so many close friends and family on a chilly, but sunny, Saturday afternoon. At many moments throughout the weekend I was overcome with emotion thinking about the many blessings God has given us. He is so good to us!  Here we are, in our beautiful home with so many luxuries we couldn't have dreamed of, surrounded by so much love, support and friendships during the weekend party. The richness of His blessings on us is something we don't take for granted. Khloe, your spunk, giggles, silly faces, health and beautiful brown eyes are blessings beyond measure! We are truly thankful! God is good!

We packed the house full of fun, food and bodies! In the eyes of a four year old, "There were so so so so so so many people I could barely get through!" The blue cheese cole slaw, pulled bbq chicken sandwiches, fruit cocktail, and mini quiches, cookies and cake were gone in a flash. You were hesitant to try your very own little cupcake, but once we fed you morsels, you didn't want to stop. You didn't really get to enjoy the complete effect of your party because you kept wanting to nap (which was waaay off from your normal schedule) - twice, in fact, during the course of your party. That just gave the kids an opportunity to open your presents for you, something they did not mind one bit.

Of course this party was all FOR you and all ABOUT you, but admittedly it was also about Mommy and Daddy having an excuse to hang out and visit with friends. But there was also another emphasis to your party: entertaining the 3-5 year old crowd - there were 8 of those little people! Not to mention two friends your size too - Ryan and Emma. We sent all the future entomologists outside on a Bug Scavenger Hunt - everyone enjoyed themselves - and each kid got to take home their own butterfly net and bugs.

There was a lot of planning and work that went into pulling off this party - we could not have done it alone! - and we are exhausted! What a busy, busy day it was, but SO worth it! Khloe, we did it for you!

There was more flour on the floor than in the bowl, which had us worried; and the cake (under all that beautiful frosting) had some major flaws, but everyone raved about the cake so all our worrying was for nothing.
The cake was a hit!
Cookie party favors for the kids
A yummy assortment of sweet treats - they didn't last long!
Ryan and Khloe, we've decided, are future high school prom dates.
 Thinking about eating the ice...
Eating the ice. Hey, it's your party. You can do what you want to.
Friends! Jack, Addison, Gemma, Katherine, Mary, Molly and Bryce
 Ymmmmm, birthday cupcake!

You have a look of confusion and frustration on your face.
I think it was the large crowd.
Future entomologists ready to begin their hunt for bugs!

Jack found one in the tree!
So many bugs to count!
So many friends to share the day with!

There you go! That was your day Khloe!
